Burns Supper


Also is called «Burns night» is a commemoration of the famous poet Robert Burns and his poetry. The celebration takes place on 25th January, the day he was born.

This festival is more common in Scotland and Northern Ireland where there are lots of Burn’s Clubs and Scottish Societies, composed by burn’s poetry fans.
On this day, people use to recitate Burn’s poetry, dance and drink Scotch whisky at the street or in the fan’s clubs.

This celebration benefits the region’s culture because children and adults learn about the literature of XVIII century spending a great day accompanied of friends.

Curiosities  

Robert Burns is a pioneer of the Romanticism and when he died he became a source of inspiration to the founders of liberalism and socialism. He was republican and progressive. 

On the other hand, his poem “Auld Lang Syne” what means old long syne, is considered as a patrimonial song sung at New Year’s Eve.
