A new White House report released Tuesday on sexual assaults on college campuses is putting a spotlight on concerns about how best to educate and effectively communicate the issue to students. The report issued by the White House task force to protect students from sexual assault urges colleges to adopt a three-point action plan that includes:  -- Campus climate surveys, to gauge student concerns about sexual violence -- Educating and empowering men to step in when someone's in trouble  -- Putting in place effective campus response plans when a student reports an assault The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) estimates that a college with 10,000 students could experience as many as 350 rapes per year, while the White House Council on Women and Girls -- co-authors of the White House report -- estimates nearly one-in-five women will be sexually assaulted during her time in college. Kelly Andersen believes that it's up to the colleges to take...

The American coal industry is accusing the Obama administration of using the Environmental Protection Agency to end the use of coal despite the president's claim of having an "all of the above" Combined with other EPA policies and regulations, Betsy Monseu, CEO of the American Coal Council said, "Starting in about 2012 and continuing to 2020, we'll have about 60 gigawatts of coal-fired generation coming off-line...and the majority of that will come off in regard to the implementation of MATS in 2015 and 2016."  "We need all energy," countered Mead, "whether it's renewable, whether it's coal, oil, or gas, and we all have a responsibility to do it in the best way possible." "One of the keys to America's success is to have an energy strategy that does in fact have 'all of the above' and recognizes no energy source is perfect,” Mead said. “All of them need improvement. Gas explosion rips through Florida jail

At least two prison inmates were killed and between 100 and 150 inmates and corrections officers were injured late Wednesday after a gas explosion at a Florida jail. The cause of the explosion was not immediately clear. Castro didn't know if flooding in the area was a factor but says the jail did get extensive flooding during heavy rains that drenched the region Tuesday and Wednesday. Two nearby hospitals confirmed to WALA that they had admitted a total of 81 patients, none of whom had life-threatening injuries.   Family members of inmates and officers gathered outside the jail, claiming authorities were slow to provide them with information about their loved ones. "Where is our family members? We don’t know if they dead or alive," family member Eva Stewart told WALA-TV. "It’s really frustrating. I can’t sleep not knowing if my child’s okay. I got other family members in there too, I don’t...

Nick Clegg’s wife, who is a high profile lawyer, interrupted her husband’s press conference to ask the Deputy Prime Minister to take a public stand for men who look after their children. In a rare move, which will be seen as highly political, Mrs Clegg took the microphone at the launch of Cityfathers to demand that “modern working fathers” announce "loudly and proudly" that taking responsibility for your own children does not “affect your level of testosterone. “ Mr Clegg replied: "Of course I agree with you Miriam”. He added: "I am assuming I don’t have to translate cojones – or cojos as it’s...

But it seems Ellie Goulding’s super-secretive relationship with Dougie Poynter has come to an abrupt end. The 27-year-old Burn singer is now referring to herself as “single”. Ellie first hooked up with McFly’s cutest member at the Cosmo awards last December. They both denied the hook-up for what felt like an eternity until Mr Poynter, 26, admitted last month: “We’ve been seeing each other since last year. "Ellie’s a lovely person and a breath of fresh air in this industry.” However, it seems he needn’t have bothered. Ellie has declared her current status in a new interview, explaining: “I used to put men on a pedestal. “I decided to remedy that, and that’s why I’m single now. “They would be everything but I’ve realised I don’t need a guy. “I’ve got amazing, awesome, stupid friends in the best way possible.” Miss G then tellingly went on to discuss break-ups at length. 11 months since Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana were found guilty of evading around €400 million (£342 million), the design duo have been condemned once again, this time by the court of appeals in Milan. espite the case's prosecutors calling for the overturning of the designers' initial 20-month sentence - Gaetano Santamaria argued that if the conviction were upheld it would "run counter to common sense" - a three-judge panel reached its decision today. Dolce and Gabbana have subsequently been sentenced to 18 months in prison, while Dolce's brother Alfonso, Dolce & Gabbana general director Cristiana Ruella and finance director Giuseppe Minoni were sentenced to one year and two months in jail. However, none of the defendants will spend any time in prison as only sentences of over two years have to be served in Italy. The designers' lawyer said the ruling would be appealed at Italy's equivalent of the Supreme Court. In 2004,...

McBusted, O2 Arena: 'relentless fun'

James Bourne and Dougie Poynter from McBusted perform at the O2 Arena
Back in 2004, British teen-pop behemoths Busted and McFly were inescapable. They ruled the charts with their chirpy, loveable guitar songs and bleach-blonde fringes, and for a time as a student it seemed virtually impossible to have a first snog without McFly’s 2004 number one Obviously jangling away overhead. Both bands operated in a skater-jeaned pocket of enjoyment outside normal conventions of arch tween cool. Duly, every man had his favourite. I always preferred McFly's surf-infused style to Busted's watered down approximation of American pop-punk. Now, you needn’t choose sides, as the bands have joined forces (minus refusenik Busted leader Charlie Simpson, who, having disbanded Busted in late-2004, is focusing on his acoustic solo career). Billed as the “ultimate supergroup” – though the Traveling Wilburys might justifiably quibble – McBusted have all but sold out a 34-date UK arena tour. It wasn’t hard to see why during this 100 minutes of relentless fun....

Nicolas Cage at SXSW 2014: 'It really sucks being famous right now'

Nicolas Cage at the 2014 SXSW festival
Speaking at the SXSW festival in Austin, Cage lamented his own notoriety and the way it affected how his films are perceived. The actors who inspired him to learn his art, he suggested, didn't face the same indignity. "I started acting because I wanted to be James Dean," Cage told an audience of journalists. "I saw him in Rebel Without a Cause, East of Eden. Nothing affected me – no rock song, no classical music – the way Dean affected in 'Eden'. It blew my mind. I was like, 'That's what I want to do.' This was before everyone had a thing called a smartphone and before the advent of the 'celebutard' – just being famous for famous' sake. I'm not complaining, but it really sucks to be famous right now." Cage said he was fed up with reviewers discussing his personal life instead of his acting work. "Now even the art...
